The summer time fishing has been red hot and I’m not talking about the weather. Right now it’s prime time fishing for permit in Biscayne Bay. Permit like the hot weather and don’t mind high water temperatures unlike the bonefish. The permit fishing has been good throughout the day and the bonefishing has been best early in the morning and late in the afternoon.
The red fishing in Flamingo has been on fire! There are plenty of redfish to be caught on the flats right now and it’s not uncommon to se schools of fifty to a hundred fish in a school. The snook fishing has been best for me up the coast and the bait of choice has been live pilchards or pinfish. Most of the points and creek mouths have been holding snook and redfish, but it seems like once the bite turns on the sharks are not too far behind.
One fish there is no lack of right now are shark. We have been catching lemon shark, bull shark, and black tip/spinner shark. Now is a great time to fly fish for shark for you fly anglers. You can chum them up right behind the boat and a well placed shark fly will do the trick every time. Fly fishing for sharks is a blast if you have never done it before. Give it a try and I guarantee you will not be disappointed.
I want to remind everyone I’m booking up for tarpon season so if you want some prime weeks give me a call so we can go over some dates.
